Itinerary

DAY 1:                                                  LUGO

Make your own way to Lugo. If you do the Primitive Way in autumn, it is worth mentioning that at the beginning of October this city celebrates its most famous festival: San Froilán, as he is the patron saint of the city. It is a festival that attracts thousands of visitors from all over Galicia, but also from many other parts of Spain. Another festival, of much more recent origin, but equally worthy of note, is the celebration in June of Arde Lucus, a festival that exalts the city’s Roman past. Many citizens decide to dress up as Romans or castrexos and crowd the camps that are set up during these days in the city, allowing us to travel back in time to nothing less than the time of the Roman Empire! Hotel accommodation.

DAY 2:                                                  LUGO – A PONTE FERREIRA | 29 KMS

Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving behind the Roman Wall of Lugo, a World Heritage Site, you will walk through Santa Baia de Bóveda until you reach A Ponte Ferreira. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 3:                                                  A PONTE FERREIRA – MELIDE | 20 KMS

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will reach the point where the Primitive Way meets the French Way. This takes place in Melide, the geographical centre of Galicia and known for its octopus “á feira” and its melindres. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 4:                                                  MELIDE – ARZÚA | 15 KMS

Breakfast at the hotel. This easy stage will take you through an undulating landscape and will take you to the beautiful village of Ribadiso, at the gates of Arzúa, a cheese-making town par excellence. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 5:                                                  ARZÚA – RÚA | 20 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. You will descend until you reach the village of Rúa after having walked through an eminently agricultural landscape. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 6:                                                  RÚA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA | 20 KMS

Breakfast at the hotel. You will climb a couple of hills and reach Monte do Gozo, from where you will be able to see the towers of the church of Santiago de Compostela. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 7:                                                  SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
