Itinerary

DAY 1:                                                  BAIONA

Make your own way to Baiona. It is the first port in Europe to receive the news of the Discovery of America. You can visit the Castle of Monterreal, nowadays converted into the Parador Nacional de Turismo de Baiona. Hotel accommodation.

DAY 2:                                                  BAIONA – VIGO | 23 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. The Vigo estuary begins in Baiona and is protected by the Cíes Islands, which are the heart of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands National Park. You will walk from this marvellous place and you will pass the historic and beautiful fountain of O Pombal. You will cross two Romanesque bridges, one over the river Groba and the other at A Ramallosa. In this last locality begins the Foz del Río Miñor, a marshland of great ecological richness. In Nigrán, you will find the Templo Votivo do Mar. Arrival at Vigo, also known as the Olive City. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 3:                                                  VIGO – CESANTES | 18 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. The Lagares River Walk will take you to As Travesas. You will reach the castle of San Sebastián and descend to the neighbourhood of O Berbés, located very close to A Pedra, an area known for its restaurants and for the tasting of Oysters from the estuary. You will leave Vigo through the neighbourhood of Teis and continue your Way to Redondela, the place where the Portuguese Coastal Way joins the Portuguese Inland Way. After crossing its historic centre, you will ascend to Cesantes. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 4:                                                  CESANTES – PONTEVEDRA | 16 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. From Cesantes you will descend to Arcade. You will cross its historical medieval bridge of Ponte Sampaio over the Verdugo river. You will ascend to Vilaboa and leave the Chapel of Santa Marta behind you. Arrival at Pontevedra. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 5:                                                  PONTEVEDRA – CALDAS DE REIS | 21 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. After stamping your Credendial at the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Peregrina you will stroll through the historic centre of Pontevedra until you reach the Puente del Burgo bridge over the river Lérez. After crossing it, you will border the extensive marshland of A Xunqueira de Alba and you will enter a beautiful landscape, Bosques de Reirís and Lombo da Maceira. You will arrive at Barro, and it will be worth a detour of about five kilometres to see the Barosa River Waterfall. Between fields of crops, you will reach Caldas de Reis. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 6:                                                  CALDAS DE REIS – PADRÓN | 17 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. You will leave the town centre of Caldas de Reis and immediately join a beautiful path that will take you to the church of Santa María de Carracedo. Arrival at Valga. You will cross Monte Castelo, deep woods dotted with the waters of the river Valga and old mills. You will cross a bridge over the river Fontenlo. You will enter Pontecesures where you will cross a bridge over the river Ulla that separates the provinces of Pontevedra and A Coruña. Once on the other side of the bridge you will find yourself in Padrón, a town bathed by the River Sar and the land of illustrious Galician writers such as Camino José Cela and Rosalía de Castro. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 7:                                                  PADRÓN – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA | 26 KM

Breakfast at the hotel. Shortly after leaving Padrón you will find the Escravitude Sanctuary. You will go through O Faramello and you will reach Teo. You will reach the Alto de O Milladoiro, where the Pilgrims used to kneel when they saw the Cathedral of Santiago for the first time. Before you know it, you will reach Rosalía de Castro Street, at the height of the Plaza de Vigo, after a few steps you will enter the historic centre of Santiago and shortly after you will reach the Plaza del Obradoiro, although the traditional entrance for pilgrims on the Portuguese Way is through Praza de Praterías. Hotel accommodation. (B)

DAY 8:                                                  SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Breakfast at the hotel. End of our services. (B)
