Day 1                     ROME

Upon arrival into Rome, make your own way to the hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight Rome.

Day 2                     ROME

After breakfast, make your own way to meet the guide at 8.15 am in Piazza del Risorgimento, and take a tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, skipping the lines. Admire the Gallery of Tapestries, the Geographical Maps, and the beautiful Raphael’s rooms. The tour wouldn’t be complete without St. Peter’s Square. Admire St. Peter’s Basilica(outside), the largest church in the world and home to several pieces of fine art: think the canopy designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini or the Pietà by Michelangelo. After some free time, meet the guide at 2.15 pm at Arch of Constantine for the most complete tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Access the Palatine Hill with no line and discover the hill where Rome was founded. Then reach the Colosseum and be amazed by this monument that is the symbol of Rome. The Amphitheatre created to entertain ancient Roman citizens with bloody shows of gladiators, animals, and cruel games, is now one of the most fascinating landmarks of the city. Then, walk on the original path of ancient Rome along the Via Sacra and see the Temples of Vesta, Antonino and Faustina, the ancient Basilica Julia and Aemilia. Overnight Rome. (B)

Day 3                     ROME

Day is at leisure to explore this amazing city at your own pace. Overnight Rome. (B)

Day 4                    ROME – FLORENCE – PISA – FLORENCE

After breakfast, at the time indicated, make your own way to Rome Termini train station for your train to Florence. Upon arrival into Florence, make your own way to the hotel. In the afternoon, make your way to the meeting point at Piazzale Montelungo (Montelungo Square), in front of the yellow street sign Gray Line at 1:15 pm to join the group before departing to Pisa at 1:30 pm. Upon arrival in Pisa, visit Piazza dei Miracoli, the Baptistery (outside), the Cathedral (inside) and the Leaning Tower (outside). Return to Florence. Overnight Florence.

NOTE: In case of long queues, if you cannot visit the interior of the Cathedral, you will be offered a guided visit of Piazza dei Cavalieri.

Day 5                     FLORENCE

After breakfast, make your own way to the meeting point at 08:45 am at Accademia Gallery, in front of the entrance reserved to booking holders to join the group before departing at 9.00 am. Start your tour from the very heart of Florence, with a guided visit of Accademia Gallery, with a total immersion in the art of Michelangelo to know his most renowned works, the “David”, and other important masterpieces such as ”I Prigioni”, ”San Matteo” and the “Palestrina Pietà”. Proceed with a walking tour which will include an outdoor guided visit of San Lorenzo Church and the Duomo complex: San Giovanni Baptistery with its bronze doors as the famous Porta del Paradiso and the Cathedral with the magnificent Cupola del Brunelleschi and Giotto’s bell tower. The walk continues along lively Via Calzaiuoli in the heart of the city, where you can admire the imposing and singular Orsanmichele Church, a masterpiece of Florentine gothic art. Then you reach the bustling Mercato della Paglia (Straw Market): don’t forget to rub the nose of the famous “porcellino” (pig) and toss a coin into the fountain to bring you good luck! Admire the romantic, picturesque Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence, with its renowned jewellery shops. Continue to Piazza Signoria, one of the most beautiful squares in the world and the political centre of the city. In this true “outdoor museum”, you’ll be amazed at the beautiful Fountain of Neptune with the marvellous and imposing marble statue by Ammannati and then, looking around, the sculptural masterpieces of the Loggia dei Lanzi, including the Cellini’s Perseus and the Gianbologna’s Rape of the Sabines. Dominating all this is the majestic Palazzo Vecchio with its crenelated Arnolfo tower, one of the most famous symbols of Florence that you will be able to admire in all its magnificence. End this amazing tour with a delicious Tuscan lunch in a restaurant located in the old town. Overnight Florence. (B, L)

The standard of hotels and the level of guide expertise was excellent

Review for: Fantasy of Puglia

The standard of hotels and the level of guide expertise was excellent. The fact that breakfast and dinner were included in the pre-tour costs was of benefit to us. Our only concern would be the quality of the dinners presented to us during our 2 night stay in Alberobello. As the "dispersed hotel" did not have catering facilities, we ate at the same restaurant for 2 nights. This restaurant made little effort to give us meals comparable to the standard of the other included meals. On our first night the first course was a pasta with minimal sauce, the second course was 2 small Italian sausages with a small scoop of fried potato and the dessert was a chocolate sauce on ice-cream. Some of our group complained to Angela, our guide, who agreed that it was not satisfactory and rang the restaurant to ask for a higher quality meal the next night. On the second night, for the first course we were given a very similar pasta to the night before, then a small undressed tomato, mozzarella and lettuce salad accompanied by a small dressed tomato and lettuce salad. This was topped off by a slice of watermelon for dessert. We particularly enjoyed the final dinner at the 'Masseria le Stanzie' outside Lecce.
