Day 4                    MILAN – COMO – BELLAGIO – MILAN

After breakfast, make your own way to the meeting point at Largo Cairoli corner Via Cusani, for a full day excursion to Como and Bellagio, leaving at 08:30am (be there at 08:15am). Nestled between the huge snow-capped Alps that rise from its shores, is the fashionable lakeside town of Como. After spending time shopping and dining, you will take a two-hour panoramic cruise on Lake Como. Lake Como is the third largest lake in Europe and is surrounded by stunning alpine scenery and beautiful villages famed for their high-quality silk production. On your cruise, admire the lakeside villas and keep an eye out for Villa d’Este at Cernobbio, a luxurious hotel set in tropical gardens. The mild Mediterranean climate ensures an abundance of exotic and rare plants thrive year-round. Docking at the town of Bellagio, one of the most famous towns on the lake, you can follow the steep alleys running up from the lake and stop for a coffee or gelato at one of the lively cafes housed in grand historic buildings. Spend some time at your leisure before cruising back to Como. In the afternoon, return to Milan. Overnight in Milan. (B)

Day 5                    MILAN

After breakfast, morning is at leisure. In the afternoon, make your own way to the meeting point at Largo Cairoli corner Via Cusani for the regular afternoon half day city tour of Milan (be there at 2:30pm). Enjoy a half-day tour of the impressive city of Milan. Take a look at the medieval Sforza Castle. An impressive medieval Castle and fortress, one of the most impressive urban castles in Europe. The Sforzesco was once residence for the ruling family of Milan and now hosts several of the city’s museums and art collections. Visit the splendid Duomo Cathedral, a striking example of Gothic art and the largest church in Italy. Try to count the statue crammed onto its roof and façade, there are more than 3,200 of them, before following your guide for a visit of the interior. Exit the Duomo and walk inside Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping gallery, a 19th century glass vaulted shopping arcade. Brimming with fashionable shops and cafes, it used to be the connecting path between the Cathedral and the La Scala Opera House, so the ladies could stay dry on their way to the theatre in case of rain. At the end of the Galleria, you arrive at Milan’s most famous Opera House: the fabulous La Scala theatre. Founded in 1778 and still in use, some of the world’s greatest musicians and opera singers have performed here including Pavarotti, Maria Callas, and Giuseppe Verdi. Your entrance ticket provides 24 hours admission to the theatre and museum. Overnight Milan. (B)

The standard of hotels and the level of guide expertise was excellent

Review for: Fantasy of Puglia

The standard of hotels and the level of guide expertise was excellent. The fact that breakfast and dinner were included in the pre-tour costs was of benefit to us. Our only concern would be the quality of the dinners presented to us during our 2 night stay in Alberobello. As the "dispersed hotel" did not have catering facilities, we ate at the same restaurant for 2 nights. This restaurant made little effort to give us meals comparable to the standard of the other included meals. On our first night the first course was a pasta with minimal sauce, the second course was 2 small Italian sausages with a small scoop of fried potato and the dessert was a chocolate sauce on ice-cream. Some of our group complained to Angela, our guide, who agreed that it was not satisfactory and rang the restaurant to ask for a higher quality meal the next night. On the second night, for the first course we were given a very similar pasta to the night before, then a small undressed tomato, mozzarella and lettuce salad accompanied by a small dressed tomato and lettuce salad. This was topped off by a slice of watermelon for dessert. We particularly enjoyed the final dinner at the 'Masseria le Stanzie' outside Lecce.
