Day 1 ROME
Upon arrival into Rome, make your own way to your hotel.
Day 2 ROME
After breakfast, a transfer will take you to the meeting point to meet with your local foodie guide. Enjoy a lovely walking tour through local food markets, grocery stores and gelato shops in the areas of Campo De’ Fiori, Trastevere, and the Jewish Ghetto. We know that walking makes one hungry, that’s why we thought you’d appreciate some pit-stops! You’ll enjoy a slice of freshly baked crispy “Pizza Bianca” (Rome’s own version of focaccia) cut in half horizontally and filled with thin slices of freshly cut “mortadella”: a traditional, more-Roman-than-the-Colosseum easy snack that locals love.
And what about trying a “Supplì”? This little ball of deep-fried tomato sauce risotto with a heart of melted mozzarella cheese is everyone’s favourite street food. Pasta will be on the list too, along with some dishes from the Roman Jewish tradition. Save some space for some artisan “Gelato”! At the end of this experience, meet your driver and travel to the Vatican area. Meet your professional guide and take a tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica Square, skipping all lines! Admire the Gallery of Tapestries, the Geographical Maps, and the beautiful Raphael’s rooms before arriving at the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo’s masterpiece! The tour wouldn’t be complete without St. Peter’s Square. Admire St. Peter’s Basilica(outside), the largest church in the world and home to several pieces of fine art: think the canopy designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini or the Pietà by Michelangelo. At the end of the tour, time at your leisure to discover hidden corners of Rome. (B)
Day 3 ROME – NAPLES – POMPEI – SORRENTO
Depart Rome. The first destination is Naples, one of the most enchanting cities in the Mediterranean, famous worldwide for its rich history, art, culture, and gastronomy, where you will take a short panoramic tour to discover its beauty from the comfort of your coach, climbing up the Vomero hill. The town overlooks the Bay of Naples which extends from the Sorrento peninsula to the volcanic area of Phlegrean fields, and the skyline is dominated by the majestic and still active volcano Vesuvius, offering an impressive sight, perfect to take stunning pictures. Depart for Pompei where you will have lunch (a real Neapolitan pizza). After lunch, tour of one of the most important archaeological sites in the world: a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ruins of Pompei, with Skip the Line entrance. Through the remains and ruins of this ancient city you will learn how the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD destroyed the city, killing its inhabitants and burying it under tons of ash. The site was lost for about 1,500 years until its initial rediscovery and the objects beneath the city have been well-preserved for centuries. Walk along the ancient streets for a glimpse into the lives of the Romans, discovering ancient houses, bakeries and shops and imagine the everyday life in the Roman times. Depart for Sorrento. Dinner at hotel (dress code: jacket for men). Overnight in Sorrento. (B, L, D)
Day 4 SORRENTO – CAPRI – SORRENTO
After breakfast, embark on a boat to the island of Capri. Depending on weather conditions, you’ll take a boat ride to the popular Blue Grotto, where sunlight passes into an underwater cavity and shines through the seawater creating a magical blue reflection. Free time in Capri. Return to the mainland and then back to Sorrento for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 5 SORRENTO
Breakfast at the hotel and the rest of your day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Sorrento. (B,D)
