Slovenia is an ideal destination for nature lovers. The country is blessed with crystal clear rivers and lakes, snow capped towering mountains, and verdant green forests and pastures. With some 2500 churches, 1000 castles, ancient ruins, manor houses, a small but stunning Venetian style coastline and harbour towns there is certainly plenty to see in this tiny but green and welcoming nation.

The capital city of Ljubljana is an architectural delight, featuring beautiful buildings of Baroque and Art Noveau style. Ljubljana Castle sits atop a hill and is easily accessed by funicular. A weary or hungry traveller can sit amongst the numerous riverside cafes and restaurants, before crossing one of Ljubljana’s many beautiful bridges.
Bled is a postcard-beautiful lakeside town facing the cliff-hugging Bled Castle, mirrored by the brilliant blue lake below. Bled Island (the only island in Slovenia) can be accessed by a traditional Pletna boat to visit the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria. It is claimed that ringing the bell in the church’s bell tower can bring good luck.
Lake Bohinj’s natural beauty is the combination of emerald clear waters surrounded by lush green forests, bounded by statuesque mountains. Those who visit have the choice to simply relax and enjoy the vistas whilst those more active can kayak, paddle board, or hike in the surrounds.
Piran is a popular coastal town centred around historic Tartina Square and overlooked by the imposing Bell tower of St George Cathedral. The town’s location on the Adriatic coast rewards those looking to sample some traditional seafood dishes.
This mystical subterranean world is an adventure through majestic caverns and halls, beautiful glistening rock formations, and the blackest of pools. Whilst it may not be possible to traverse the entire 24 km network of caves, a ride on the underground rail system has ensured easy access to many of the highlights of Postojna, notwithstanding the world’s only underground post office.
