A relaxed tour or Jordan visiting ancient, biblical, cultural and natural highlights
Meet our representative at Queen Alia International airport and be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Overnight Amman.
This morning, tour the city of Amman, known as Rabbath Ammon and Philadelphia in Biblical times. See the remains of the Roman Theatre, the Archeological Museum and the Citadel containing the remains of the massive Temple of Hercules. Then drive to Jerash, the Graeco-Roman city, and close second to Petra on the list of favourite destinations in Jordan. Boasting an unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6,500 years and hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash is a fine example of the grand, formal and provincial Roman towns found throughout the Middle East. One can walk beneath four imposing gates or down the “Street of Columns” north of the Oval Plaza while stepping over the tracks of chariot wheels still visible in the paving stones. Return to Amman. Overnight Amman.
After breakfast, transfer from Amman to your hotel in the Dead Sea. Day is at leisure to utilise the hotels facilities or to have a float in the lowest place on earth. Overnight Dead Sea.
Depart for Wadi Rum and join a jeep tour over the famous desert mountains. See the striking landscape of endless sand and rock formations that appear out of the desert sands. Overnight will be a truly authentic experience, under the stars in a Bedouin Style Tent or Martian Dome. Overnight Wadi Rum.
After breakfast, depart for Petra. Enjoy a full day tour of the Red Rose city, where you will explore one of the most stunning sites in the entire Middle East. The Red Rose City of Petra is carved out of craggy rocks by the Nabateans approximately 2000 years ago. Fortified behind a narrow, deep siq (gorge) that slowly winds through a massive rock wall, the majestic façade of the so called Treasury rises up with a breathtaking view as you emerge into the sunlight. The Monastery and the High Place of the Sacrifice are among the myriad archaeological wonders to be explored in Petra. Horse ride is included. Overnight Petra.
After breakfast transfer to Amman, with a stop at Kerak, Madaba & Mount Nebo. Kerak lies about 150km south of Amman. It is renowned for its crusader fortress in the centre of underground galleries, rooms and secret passageways and its thick defensive walls pierced by narrow arrow slits where crusader archers held out bravely, but in vain, for over 100 years. It was the crusaders who made Kerak famous. The fortress was built in 1142 by Payen Le Boutellier, the lord of Montreal. He made Kerak the new capital of the province because it was situated on the king’s highway, where it could control all traffic from the north and south. Then drive to Madaba, “the City of Mosaics”. Madaba’s chief attraction, in the contemporary Greek Orthodox Church of St. Georg, is a wonderfully vivid, sixth-century Byzantine mosaic map showing Jerusalem and other holy sites. Ten minutes to the west is the most revered site in Jordan: Mount Nebo, the memorial of Moses, the presumed site of the prophet’s death and burial place. A small, square church was built on the spot by early Byzantine Christians and later expanded into a vast complex. Proceed to Amman. Overnight Amman.
After breakfast, transfer to Amman airport for departure. End of our services.
