Itinerary

DAY 1:                   ROME

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel by a private car. The rest of the day is at leisure, to explore the Eternal City. A 24-hour ticket for a double-decker tourist bus (with multilingual audio guide) is included, which can also be used for getting around the city, ideal for those who want to go sightseeing on their own to discover the famous sites of Rome, such as the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Spain Square. Overnight in Rome.

DAY 2:                   ROME

Breakfast at the hotel, then another day dedicated to discovering the city. We suggest a tour of Imperial Rome, to closely admire the monuments of the Roman Forum, enter the Colosseum and listen to our guide’s presentation of the evocative history of ancient Rome and the gladiators’ fights that took place there. Or you can join an excursion to visit Rome Catacombs. For the evening, we recommend a nice walk in the Trastevere district, full of typical Roman restaurants. Overnight in Rome. (B)

DAY 3:                   ROME – FLORENCE

After breakfast at the hotel, make your own way to Rome Termini station to board the high-speed train to Florence; the journey takes about 1h 30′. After arriving, make your own way to the hotel with free time available for an independent visit of the city, the ‘cradle of the Renaissance’. Among the places that certainly are worth being seen include Piazza della Signoria, the medieval heart of the city, Piazza Santa Croce with its past noble families’ buildings, and the home of Dante, the Supreme Poet author of the Divine Comedy. A small taste of typical local products is included to make a pleasant stop during a first exploratory tour of the city and its wonders. Overnight in Florence. (B)

DAY 4:                   FLORENCE

Breakfast at the hotel, then a full day dedicated to the discover Florence at your own pace. There is an optional walking tour or a guided tour of the Accademia Gallery, which houses the original of Michelangelo’s famous statue of David. Alternatively, you can go on half-day or full-day excursions to discover the neighbouring places of interest such as the Chianti district with its world-famous wines or more distant places but with an undisputable charm such as the Cinque Terre. Overnight in Florence. (B)

DAY 5:                   FLORENCE – VENICE

After breakfast at the hotel, make your own way to the train station. Board the high-speed train to Venice S. Lucia. The journey takes about 2h 15′. After arriving, make your own way to your hotel. In the afternoon there will be a 30-minute “gondola ride” with commentary via an app on your mobile phone. Overnight stay in Venice. (B)

DAY 6:                   VENICE

Breakfast at the hotel, then a full day dedicated to exploring Venice or its lagoon. We suggest a guided walking tour through the most famous places in the city (Piazza San Marco with the Basilica and the Clock Tower, the Rialto Bridge, Campo Santa Maria Formosa); or a skip-the-line guided tour of the Doge’s Palace, with the Doge’s luxurious apartments and the famous Bridge of Sighs. Alternatively, you can go on a boat trip to the islands of the Venice lagoon: Murano, known all over the world for its famous glass craftmanship; Burano, famous not only for its lace, but also, for the picturesque fishermen’s houses all painted in bright colours; and Torcello, the first settlement centre in the lagoon. Overnight in Venice. (B)

DAY 7:                   VENICE

After breakfast, end of our services. (B)

Elizabeth and Gordon Wood
Fantastic quality of hotel and expertise of the guide

Review for: Highlights of Sicily

The quality of the hotels, the places visited, the knowledge and expertise of the guide and the experiences we had, were fantastic. Perhaps our only question would be that we were a group of over 30 and we were of the understanding that Sun Island Tours were for groups smaller than this. Our overall impression of Sicily was of a vibrant culture with so much history behind it.

Reply from Sun Island Tours
Hi Elizabeth and Gordon, Thank you for your review. The Highlights of Sicily is not a small group tour, and is listed as such. However we will review further to see why you had that impression. Great to hear you had a wonderful time. Regards, John @ Sun Island Tours

September 2019

Review for: Florence, Tuscany & Beyond

My wife and I made an eight-day coach trip in the second week of September 2019. Italy is a beautiful country and what added to our rich and positive experience was the tour provided by Sun Island Tours. We experienced the value provided mainly through their tour leader, coach driver and hotels for stay etc. Worth a special mention are the two people that were highly rated by all on the tour – Sabrina Prassede, our tour leader was by far the best guide we have encountered in our years of travel. Here intuitive responsiveness, high energy levels, attention to specific needs of every tourist without diluting the planned itinerary and deep knowledge of the country, made the journey comfortable and stress-free for a diverse set of people travelling from five continents. She was very well supported by Paolo, the coach driver, who was the wonderfully skilled and who ensured the tour was very smooth, safe and prompt throughout. For those wanting to enjoy a stress-free Italy sojourn, we highly recommend them.

Solo Traveller

Review for: Rome, Florence & Cinque Terre by Rail

Generally it's good. I am a solo traveller. On some accommodation I was given a single bed. Which I found cramp and very tight. Quite uncomfortable. As a solo traveller, we are charge with extra for accommodation. So I think we deserved something better if not the best.
