Upon arrival into Amman, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
City tour of Amman. See the remains of the Roman Theatre and the Citadel. Continue to visit the Desert Castles. See the stunning artwork in Qasr Amra.
Drive to Jerash which is perhaps, the best preserved of the provincial Roman towns. Around its colonnaded main street, see the Cardo, South Theatre, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Artemis Temple and the Nymphaeum. The city’s 14 churches date from Byzantine time and are filled with fine mosaics. Continue to Saladin’s 12th century Arab castle, Qalaat al Rabad (Ajloun), one of the finest examples of military architecture. Return to Amman.
Drive to Madaba, home to some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in the world. View the 6th century mosaic Map of Jerusalem. Continue to Mount Nebo, the memorial of Moses, the presumed site of the prophet’s death and burial place. In Kerak, see the crusader fortress in the centre of underground galleries, rooms and secret passageways. Continue to Petra.
Spend the day at Petra. The tour begins at the Siq, a winding canyon road. At the end of the passage see the Treasury, carved out of the solid rock from the side of the mountain. Beyond the Treasury, discover soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a theatre, burial chambers and water channels.
Drive to Little Petra, in ancient times a suburb of Petra, and take a short walk through this bizarre landscape. Continue to Wadi Rum, a moonscape terrain of ancient riverbeds, wind-sculpted mountains, and vast desert vistas. Enjoy a 2 hour jeep excursion. Return to Amman.
Day is at leisure. Optional excursions available to the Dead Sea, Ma’in Hot Springs, or Bethany.
Transfer to Amman airport. End of services.
