Jordan’s fascinating capital city is situated on the hills between the vast desert and the Jordan Valley. Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered to be Jordan’s most famous attraction. Set in a narrow valley with tombs, temples and monuments carved into the surrounding pink sandstone cliffs, you will soon understand why Petra is also known as the “Rose City”. Jerash is Jordan’s largest and most intriguing Roman site. It’s imposing ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres all give you a sense of how important this imperial centre was. Jerash is home to numerous amazing ruins, including Hadrian’s Arch, the remains of the Temple of Zeus and the Hippodrome which hosted chariot races.
Mount Nebo is approximately 710 metres above sea level and offers incredible panoramic views over areas of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and even Jerusalem’s distant hills. It is a sight of religious significance as according to the Bible; it is where Moses lived out his final days and saw the Promised Land. It is also believed to be the site where Moses’ body is buried.
Wadi Rum in southern Jordan, is also known as the Valley of the Moon and is the largest Wadi in Jordan. Travellers staying in the area can overnight in Bedouin Camps located in the desert and glamping hotels. You can also participate in 4×4 tours, camel rides, riding Arabian horses, hiking and rock-climbing.
Aqaba is a Jordanian port city on the Red Sea and is home to the Islamic-era Aqaba Fort. Its many popular beach resorts include windsurfing, and the area is a top destination for scuba divers. With notable dive sites including Yamanieh coral reef in the Aqaba Marine Park.
Floating in the Dead Sea is a quintessential thing to do in Jordan. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth accessible by road, and known for its highly salty waters. Visitors of both local and international nationalities seek the Dead Sea for its mineral-rich mud, known for its therapeutical and cosmetic miracles.
Just 30km from Amman lies one of the most memorable places in the Holy Land, Madaba “The City of Mosaics”. Best known for its spectacular collection of Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. The ancient town is a hot spot for religious tourism and remains as one of the most traveller friendly towns in Jordan.

There is no direct flight from Australia to Jordan, most routes include at least one layover in cities like Bangkok (BKK) or Doha (DOH). Many international carriers fly into Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport (AMM). These carriers are Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Emirates, Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines, and Singapore Airlines.
You can also enter Jordan from Israel via one of three border crossings that are available. The Allenby/King Hussein bridge border crossing is the most reliable.
