Aswan

To many, Aswan is the most beautiful of the cities along the Nile. Once ancient Egypt’s gateway to Africa, it is the perfect place to explore major attractions such as temples and monuments in Upper Egypt. Visit the Nubian Museum, Elephantine Island and the Aswan Museum, and see the Unfinished Obelisk, which would have been the largest single standing stone had it not cracked and been left abandoned!

Luxor

Originally called “Thebes” in ancient Egypt, Luxor has a wealth of temples and tombs to explore. From here you can visit the Temple or Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Luxor Temple and the Temple of Deir al-Bahri (Queen Hatshepsut). Well worth a few days at least, to explore all that Luxor has to offer.

Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm el-Sheikh is a well established resort town, located between the desert of the Sinai Peninsula and the Red Sea. Loved by divers, it is known for its natural sandy beaches, crystal waters and coral reefs. Don’t forget a visit to the Old Bazaar – one of the top spots for shopping!

Abu Simbel, Egypt

Abu Simbel

One of Egypt’s top tourist and most recongised attractions, this breathtaking monument is a massive rock temple carved in sandstone rock. The twin temple was carved out during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses the great as a lasting monument to himself and his queen Nefertari, before being moved for the construction of Lake Nasser.

Nile Cruising

A visit to Egypt wouldn’t be complete without a cruise on the River Nile. Fly to either Luxor or Aswan to join a 3, 4, or 7-night cruise, which include stops at Edfu to visit the Temple of Horus, and Kom Ombo to see the temples of Sobek and Horus. Sites you will witness in Luxor include the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. In Aswan, wonder at the awe of Philae Temple and the Unfinished Obelisk.

Find some of our top tips for choosing the perfect trip for you!

Essentials to bring to Egypt – a good camera, a sun hat, and sunscreen. An Arabic phrasebook might come in handy too!
Try to avoid travelling in the northern summer as temperatures can be unbearable. Spring would be an ideal time with milder temperatures and possibly cheaper prices.
Avoid travel during Ramadan (12 April – 11 May 2021) as many attractions will be closed and hotels will be busy.
Best to not drink the water as it is heavily chlorinated, so bottled water is recommended.
One of the best experiences in Egypt is to visit a souk market. Be prepared to bargain hard or walk away. As a general rule, offer one third of the asking price and expect to pay half.
Wear light, loose-fitting clothing. In some locations, your chest, arms and legs need to be covered, and ladies, a head-covering such as a scarf when you enter mosques.
Public toilets are not free so be prepared to pay. It’s a good idea to bring your own toilet-paper and hand sanitiser as there is usually no running water.
Be prepared to tip …. A lot!

Egypt is a large country with a number of major international airports that service the most popular regions. Most flights departing from Australia to Egypt will include at least one stop over. Major airlines that fly to Egypt include Emirates, Qatar Airways, Qantas, Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia and more.

I absolutely recommend this tour for anyone who wants a truly memorable experience exploring Egypt! Everything was perfect and was far more than what we expected. Everything was taken care of and organized very well. It was the perfect mix of luxury travel and getting the local experience. Visiting the sites and museums in a more private environment was a real VIP experience and my favorite part was getting to visit a local Nubian home. Definitely recommending this to everyone I know and we are already talking about going back with our kids someday.
